Mountain roads to Bolzano

It is a wonderful drive up the Western side of Largo di Garda, as long as you like mountain roads! Very spectacular. All along the lake are settlements, with hotels, restaurants and lots of people holidaying. Our favourite stop was when we left the lake shore and went up to the mountain top at Tignale to visit the Sanctuary of Montecastello. This picturesque church is perched on the hillside with commanding views over the lake.

The view was misty and not perfect! We cheated, purchased a postcard and photographed it! It was still stunning!

The church was also very beautiful but we really liked the fact that it had its own bar! The roads were very mountainous and it was morning. The sign was great:

Durante La S. Messa il bar rimane!     During the Mass the bar is closed.

We drove on to Trento, another great city. We are due to return the car so will be back. We visited the Duomo and piazzas. A great fountain in the main square.

We drove on the back route on to Bolzano through some beautiful little villages. Stunning views but very difficult driving with very steep grades and lots of hairpin bends. In Bolzano we found a hotel and visited a few of the main places but will do more tomorrow.

Well that's an unusual way of upping your congregation numbers!

I can't believe they close the bar during Mass!

Well they still have communion wine right?

We are religiously conservative of course so we had coffee. It could relate to the winding mountain roads

I used to tell Lyndal's kids I was going to church if I was really going to the pub for Happy Hour, and Caitlyn said to Lyndal once that she thought I was very very religious indeed.
