We had a wonderful drive from the Yorkshire Dales over to The Lakes District. Lots of fields with sheep and baby lambs. Stone fences and quaint houses built from local stone.Most of the villages and towns are very small with picture postcard scenes around every corner.
Seem to have picked one without sheep!
Dry stone walls are everywhere.
Each village has a quiet churchyard!
Gail next to the Lindon Falls. Very small as no recent rain.
There is a historic hydro power station that is now back in use. It can power 90 homes.
As we drove on we came across "The Courtyard Dairy". We had read that it won the World Cheese Award for Cheesemonger of the Year so had to stop. It was a great tasting with many English cheeses new to us.
We made a small purchase!
Some of the offerings. The one in the front was Baron Bigod a rich Brie. We ate it before going out for dinner tonight.
We are now in Windermere staying in the popular Bowness section,very close to the lake.
We are staying very close to one of the attractions that is popular with children. Any guesses?

In today's literary trivia, one of my favourite authors, Diana Wynne Jones, was evacuated to the Lakes District during the war. Arthur Ransome complained about the noise she and her sisters made - while Beatrix Potter slapped her younger sister for swinging on a gate!
