Cotswolds

After spending so much time in Royal Wootton Bassett we didn't make a lot of distance but drove to the picturesque Cotswolds. On the way we stopped at Cirencester a former Roman settlement that is very pretty. We walked the town, shopped in the old corn mill and enjoyed the beauty of the place.

Our major visit was to Boughton on the Water. It is just post card perfect if a little busy with other tourists. A stream runs through the town and even the ducks are trained to perform for the visitors.

We actually visited twice. First we walked around the town and then we went to the "model village" This is a recreation of the town in miniature. Much easier to photograph than the real thing!!

Next stop was the villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter. They were the real thing! Classic Cotswold villages. No tourists but no ice cream shops! Possibly the ultimate Cotswold experience.

                                                                     Very serene.

                                                        Great dry stone walls.

                                                Beautiful historic homes.

Upper Slaughter had stunning Manor homes and both villages have a few very exclusive hotels. We drove on to Stow on the Wold. We did stay at the former Manor house and had excellent accommodation.
It has a huge central square with the church in it. The shops are expensive art galleries but there were lots of pubs and restaurants. We visited two, one for drinks and one for dinner.

Stow lodge, our home for the night.

Drinks at the Queens Head. Hops on the ceiling and hops in the glass.

Relaxing at the Stow Lodge. It was cold enough for the fire!

Hope you found something nice to read by the fire! All those lovely pictures look like chocolate box lids.
