Lucerne Lakes and Mountains

We arrived in Lucerne after another train problem. Our direct express was terminated due to track work and we arrived by bus. We decided to go direct from our hotel up the Stanserhorn. We had previously been up Pilatus so went on the second highest with the newest gondola.
The first section was by historic funicular that is over one hundred years old. The final section is in a modern cable car, the only one with an open top deck for standing passengers.

Up we went in the old funicular, almost a toy train.

The view down to Lake Lucerne.

Gail up on the open deck of the gondola.

At the top there was mist and cloud but the views were still wonderful. We stayed a few hours and the weather did close in. We eventually retraced our route down with our timed departures and took the train from Stans back to Lucerne. We then had a wonderful evening wondering around the old town after dinner by the famous bridge. Indeed our method of selecting a restaurant was to take the first waterfront table that we could claim in front of the Chapel Bridge.

We walked across the bridge after dinner.

                                                              Our after dinner stroll.

This is the picture that we remembered from the last trip.

This morning we continued wandering the old town It is the part of Lucerne that we love.

Up on the hill is the government of the Canton.

The other wooden covered bridge is less popular with tourists but just as beautiful. This shows detail of roof paintings. We climbed the city wall and it took a lot of effort! The views were worthwhile!

                                                              On the high city wall.

After lunch we organised our next few days and have made big changes to our plans. In the late afternoon we took a boat trip on Lake Lucerne.

Our boat was ultra modern. Most were traditional lake boats.

                                                          One of the traditional boats.

We went across the lake to Kehrsiten- Burgenstock. We stayed on rather than going up to the top.

Enlarge this and you will see the route to the top.

We had a marvelous mountain backdrop to the trip.

Back on shore, we still had time to do some shopping, late afternoon drinks and dinner along with shopping. We have set ourselves a limit of one chocolate a day.

                                                              Gail selects hers!

Marvellous photos of the views, the bridges, and the chocolate!
Although I confess I would have opted for an old style boat
