Nayinativu Island

We visited Nayinativu Island that is closer to the mainland than the island of Delft. Delft is rich in history and Nayinativu is rich in culture with a major Buddhist complex and a large Hindu Shrine.
The Svasti Siddhan has a large statue of the Buddha. It is set in a complex that is much more compact than some of the sites that we have visited.

                                                       Gail at the Buddhist complex

The Island seems prosperous relative to Delft and the temples very impressive.

The temple was located next to the harbour in a very pleasant setting.

We walked just 400 metres to the Hindu temple that was also large and impressive. Off with the shoes, hats and shirt (just Rob) and we were fine to enter.

The Hindu temples are bright with vibrant colours. The Nainativu Sri Naagapooshani Amman Kavil
temple complex was large and stunning.

You are not normally allowed to take photos inside but we were given dispensation. This was rather cute!

                                             Some close up shots.

We went by boat back to the causeway and drove back to Jaffna.

Along the way we saw more birdlife and stopped for sunset shots.
