Arriving in Sri Lanka

After a full day of travel and five hours in transit at Singapore we arrived in Sri Lanka. It was midnight when we landed and 1.30am by the time we went through immigration and the taxi driver found our hotel. We were in bed by 2.00am but we  put our watches back 5 1/2 hours so it felt like breakfast time. We had had five meals that day so managed to sleep in before the hotel breakfast buffet by the pool.

The view from our room. We are at coconut level with the Indian Ocean at the back.

We are at Watalla near Uswetakeiyawa just north of Colombo at  a Negombo beach resort. It has that Asian laid back feel! We were able to spend the day doing very little as we recuperated from our busy period of renovations and the rigor of the flight.

Rob on Negombo Beach. You might be able to see the high rise of Colombo in the background.

Gail relaxing under the shade of a tropical tree, gin and tonic in hand and book at the ready.

Rob tries the local Lion beer. Ready to take the plunge!

This trip will see us travel around the “teardrop isle” including wildlife reserves and national parks, significant religious and cultural sites, the rarely visited far north with Jaffna and the islands of Nayinativu and many beautiful beaches. Later we fly to The Maldives for relaxation along no doubt with many honeymooners and finally over to Southern India for more Indian experiences.
