London Town

We travelled by train from Brussels to London. It was our first time by chunnel! We are staying in Paddington in a small hotel with very small rooms but it has a good position.

We spent yesterday visiting a few museums and plan to go to Kew Gardens today.

The V&A is a wonderful museum. We saw all sorts of things so will share just a few of those with you.

A glass virginal.A virginal is a small keyboard instrument and this one was made from glass and designed to be played.

When you get to a certain age and go to museums it is not unusual to come across something that you still have in use at home! When you visit don't chip the old sugar bowl. It is museum quality!! A Ruskin range from Finland from about 1960.

No we don't have one of these. Well we do have a Gail but not a "Twisting back,Multiplying" by  the Japanese artist Nahashima.

This is Tippoo's Tiger. It has an organ that plays by turning a handle. It was looted from India in 1799.

There is an extensive collection of fashion through the ages. These are a few of the more dashing.

A few items by Mary Quant

The museum goes around all sides of this courtyard. The kids were in the water. We ate indoors!

                                                   Lots of miniatures in gold.

                                                                  A golden crown.

We also visited the Natural History museum. This is the most complete remains of a Stegasaurus discovered,

This one is a Deinonychus. It means terrible claw!

Back to our hotel by Tube we had a short stroll in the gardens next door.We didn't need to go to Amsterdam as they were in flower right next to our hotel. Tried a few pubs as the first was very noisy.

The V&A is one of the top spots on my list of London places. The others are the museum of Childhood and Bethnal Green where the dollhouses are that used to be in the main V&A and the Fashion and Textile museum.
