Castles in Mecklenburg

We travelled today with our friends Charlotte and Elizabeth to two castles North of Hamburg. The trip by car made this possible.
The first started as the hunting lodge for the Dukes of Mecklenburg. Schloss Ludwigslust was more a Palace than a castle but was a favourite. Difficult to describe so hope pictures do the job! It had wonderful rooms full of furnishings, furniture, art.. all the best in life.

Not bad for a hunting lodge! It later became the main castle.

                                                                The Golden Hall/

                                                                      Meissen Ware.

The picture gallery was St. Petersburg style.

                                                                 Lots of ivory.

A prize if you can identify these!

St. Helen's Church in the grounds

                                                                Sculpture in the weir

After linch in the old guard house we drove up to Schloss Schwerin. This has an eclectic style and more like Mad Ludwig's castle. The exterior was very ornate with many styles and the inside was most elaborate. There were priceless objects of art.

                                                                The guard at work.

                                                                 Furniture, floors and art.

                                                           Gail in the Throne Room

                                                                    Ceilings/

The castle has a friendly ghost called Peter.

                                                        Delft. Is this upside down??

                                                                         The garden

                                                                We were framed!

It was late by the time we left the gardens but drove up Ratzeburg that is on a isthmus in a large lake. We had dinner while the local community celebrated a milestone for their fire brigade in the square.

Glad you made it to my church! I think the medals are the equivalent to the Purple Heart .

Helen,
The photo of the Church was especially for you!
However, the photo that you called medals is not a photo of medals! Sorry no prize to you.

We're voting for mechanical astrological calendars.
And some more lovely photos there, the framed one especially!
