The Most Docile Creature in the World

We enjoyed our last night on the Queen Violetta with a bottle of wine and a sunset over the Amazon.

We need tuition in taking selfies! We have good photos of the sunset and each of us individually but do not buy us one of the stupid poles for taking photos!

The next morning we got off the ship at Nauta and visited the local markets and ponds.

The meat market. This is some kind of rodent that we hear is delicious!

The fish were in all shapes, colours and size.

                                                                       Caimen and fish

At the ponds we saw lots more tortoise, again being friendly. The ponds had the giant Amazon fish that are not legal to sell

Sometimes they accidentally swallow a whole tortoise!

Just before we reached Iquitos we visited the Centro de Rescate Amazonico..the Manatee rescue centre. Wonderful, wonderful!

These three are packed to bring home.

How could you not love this little one

                                                    The most docile of animals!

We also saw otter, monkeys and an ocelot at the centre. The ocelot had been  confiscated at the local markets.

                                                                                   Otter

A Saddle Back Tamarin like a small monkey.

They plan to return this one to the wild.

The flowers were spectacular. We also were very impressed with the educational program. The reason that this centre is needed is that people still kill Manatees for food and the educational programs aim to change values. The Government supports children in the villages with food for breakfast and lunch at school.
We were to see a big contrast in Iquitos city!
