Animals of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

Entering the Pacaya Samiria Reserve we were able to see the birds, mammals, reptiles insects etc of the area both from our small boat and also walking through the forest. This is a small selection from one outing of some of the animals.

High on our must see list was the sloth. We saw this from the boat and watched its lazy climb down the tree. This is the three toed variety.

WE saw many monkeys but they are high up in the trees so it is hard to get good photos.

This was one of the larger species. Many were very tiny.

This was a rare sighting of the Night Owl Monkey. They were watching our every move

This is the only Tamandua, a kind of anteater that we saw in the trees. There ate lots of termite nests so plenty of food! It kept climbing around the tree to hide from us.

We did all of this before we had a stop for breakfast. We were well looked after!

The Hoatzin bird considered to be a link to the dinosaurs. More about this from the next sighting.

We walked across the a remote area to see the Hoatzin ( pronounced Watsin ) birds and at a small cut off waterhole we came across these cute tortoise. They were just being friendly!

Several times we saw the Pink Dolphin but failed to get a good photo. The mature males and females are very pink but a little shy! They were also always one the other side of the boat to your camera!
