Danko Island

Our next stop was Danko Island home to 16000 pair of Gentoo penguins plus chicks..we met most of them.
The weather was better and by the time we climbed to the ridge we were peeling off a few layers.

Up at the top we were able to look down on the kayakers starting out. They managed onlt 4 or 5 outings in total due to conditions.
Stunning views and the penguins are just so cute.

Up close with a Gentoo. One gave Gail a peck on the leg.

Starting to warm up. The sun is out and the views are great

Back down we prepare for our zodiac outing

Fur seals play at the shore line. They are juvenile males

The zodiacs close in on the Leopard seal. But we only get just so close!
A leopard seal  shows us its teeth. Look out penguins!

Hope you can see the leopard seal swimming under the zodiac. It was so close we could have reached down to touch it..but they have eaten people before.
Scene from another camera.

Every day we see hundreds of beautiful icebergs. They have great colour and are all different
The zodiac gives you an idea of the scale. Some peaks tower over 2000 metres
The leopard seal takes a plunge and we return to the ship.
It is too rough and dangerous for us to explore Wilhemina Bay in the afternoon as planned.
