The Alternate Route from St Moritz to Zurich

We had arrived in St Moritz on the Glacier Express and could have retraced our steps back as far as Chur on the same line. We chose the alternative route that is also very scenic via Landquart. Very simple one change, the same as if going via Chur!

We enjoyed the scenery along the beautiful valley with small towns and over viaducts. All was wonderful.

                                                     Delightful tranquil scenes.

We ate our lunch as we passed through these little communities.

Each had a church with a steeple.

There were still lots of bridges and viaducts.

The train ran along next to the river for much of this section.

We were still in the mountains and passed through this long avalanche chute.

Before we reached Landquart we were informed that there was a power problem with the line ahead, We ended up with multiple changes. We had to change trains at Klosters but the only parts of this famous resort we saw were from the station. Another train to Kublis and then everyone from the train piled on to two buses as we went around the electrical break and back onto the train at Federis, the next station.Eventually we reached Landquart. The fastest route from there involved a few more changes so we opted to sit and wait for the intercity train direct to Zurich.

The trip from Landquart was uneventful but the scenery was again interesting going past small towns and beside lakes. As we passed along the shores of Lake Zurich people were swimming and boating.

                                                            Pristine Lake Zurich.

We finally arrived in Zurich after our much more eventful trip than planned. We were able to walk to our apartment in the old town that is very close to all the main historic sites.

I'm a bit disappointed in Zurrich so far. Where are the spies, the bank heists, and more importantly, my new numbered Swiss Bank Account???
