Before leaving Interlaken we visited the Old Town. We had a little over an hour before checking out and walking to the station and it was about 15 minutes each way. It was a good workout!
The town is interesting with quaint houses, historic buildings, churches and towers and lots more. It is not touristy and people were going about their business.
One of the landmarks.
The timbers are hundreds of years old.
After a few very demanding train trips we opted for a more relaxed pace today. We left our hotel in Interlarken East and caught the train just one stop to the other side of town. The boat dock is next to the station so we boarded. We could have stopped on the train and arrived about 17 minutes later and not move our bags, but the boat trip was excellent.
We stopped at a series of small lake front communities. Some had nothing much but a few houses and possibly a restaurant, another a cave system and others had connecting cable cars to ride up the surrounding mountains. There were several that were resorts with people swimming in the lake and pools.
Just look at the colour of the water.
The old town centre at Spiez.
Lots to see in Spiez. Worth a return visit.
A lake boat steams past. Wheels going at full pace.
Beautiful lines!
Eventually our 2 1/2 hour trip was over and we arrived at Thun.
She also had classic lines.
Thun is another place that we would like to explore. We had expected to change trains to reach our next base at Fribourg but we managed to catch a direct train even if it was all stations.
Our base for two days is the smaller city of Fribourg and we will explore other places from here.
