Today we had a day trip to Dusseldorf. It is a city of contrasts. There is very little remaining of Medieval Dusseldorf but you do get glimpses of the old with the new superimposed, It is an industrial and commercial city and the State Capital. This riles the people of Calogne as a much larger city. Each claims that the other sells watery beer! It is a bit like Sydney and Melbourne but most of the beer is imported!
No sooner had we arrived than we saw this modern aquatic sculpture superimposed on the Johanneskirche Church.
The "Ko Gallery" We walked down the fashion strip with all the big fashion labels. It is the fashion centre of Germany.
The Triton Fountain in the Moat. Next to it was a nest of tiny birds! It looks ok in the photo but the area was a reconstruction site!
Each city has its Rathaus. The bronze equestrian is the Elector Jan Wellem, the most famous equestrian statue North of the Alps. You will all know this of course!
The sculpture celebrating Dusseldorf gaining city status in 1288
When city status was granted they all turned cartwheels. This is the cartwheel fountain. Try viewing it upside down. Not sure which way it was taken!
We did stop for morning coffee and again for lunch. Lunch was at one of the 5 famous beer houses. We selected Brauerei im Fuchschen in the old sector. The beer was not watery!
Can anyone tell me what you do with this? Lieberskimmer Pille at 2.50 euros! No googles!

I'd totally rock those shoes - I'm a 6 1/2 by the way. :-)
Dusseldorf has some fascinating statues! And you take Lieberskimmer Pille for a broken heart (thank you google translate). Q - were they selling beir to drown the sorrows of a heartbreak?
WE only purchased the beer and not the Lieberskimmer Pille!
Although some say that they do the same job!!
We'd pay to see Grandad doing cartwheels around a fountain here
