Amsterdam, Edam and Volendam..Sounds cheesy
Spent a day in Amsterdam before we left our ship. We also went out to Edam and Volendam.
We had a free canal tour of Amsterdam so despite the rain this was an easy way to check out the sights.
The view of seven bridges..only there was a boat blocking out the other 5!
Opening canal bridge
No time for a coffee in these little joints!
Back ashore we had more great canal views
Rob with Spinoza. Was too liberal for Amsterdam in his day. One of those men a few hundred years ahead of his time.
Over the "Bra" bridge and on to Edam.
Edam was a small town that has had a major role in cheese production. A cheesy little town.
Tea houses on the canal banks
The cheese weighing house.
Another cheesy shot. Didn't quite cover Rob's head!
On to Volendam we had two different views of this fishermans village. The first was a walk through the labyrinth with its tiny traditional houses.
and the other the commercialisation of this town in the "shopping street". It has a beautiful position on the banks of the former Zuider Zee but there were certainly lots of souvenir shops.
