Last Day on the Amazon

We had a full final morning at the lodge. We joined four others to go to the main Amazon. Our first stop was at the place where the Victoria Amazonica lilies grow. The flowers were not as spectacular but they only last 2 days so we were lucky on the last sighting.

Back on the boat I caught a Freshwater Barracuda. It simply jumped into my arms. Check out those teeth. I didn't kiss this one before he was released!
We went searching for Pink Dolphins and found a few small family groups. The photo is to show where one was when we clicked the shutter!

There it ...was! We have about a hundred similar photos and will organise a power point presentation. Death by Dolphins!!

The final activity was swimming in the Amazon. Very refreshing and we may have swum with dolphins, or anacondas, caiman or piranha. Lucky for us the costumes were dry by the time we got back to the lodge

Lunch and farewells then into the speedboat for our trip to Iquitos and our flight to Lima. After about 2 hours into the 140 km trip the boat broke down. We floated backwards down the Amazon along with the dead trees. We would not have been surprised at propeller damage but the problem was mechanical. Eventually we did a hazardous mid river change of boat and were underway again. Despite our concerns we arrived in Iquitos in time to change before the flight.
The flight was on time and reached Lima early although it was well after 9.00pm.

Lima is a huge city and it was a busy, hassling job to get a taxi to our hotel. No dinner but a cup of tea and a shower and into bed.
