Seward to Anchorage

Today we started our land trip of Alaska. We went from Seward to Anchorage by the special train with the glass viewing roof. It provided wonderful views but at times the view was of fog!
It was a great way to travel and see the sights. We saw mountains and swampy plains, glaciers and rivers ,lakes and the sea.We didn't see as much wildlife as we had hoped for but still have a lot of the trip ahead of us. We did see birdlife, eagles and Beluga whales. We especially enjoyed the cute little Belugas but failed to get one decent photo! We can show yoy photos of water with white/ grey splodges that are the whales.

We had sun but we also had fog. On the whole we have been lucky with the weather as we have been to places that receive the most rainfall in the world.

                                                           Our train

                                                       Passing a small glacier

                                        Mountains above the mist

Our train passing a glacier. We had a great seat in the front carriage

After arriving in Anchorage we visited the museum. This is a waterproof jacket made from walrus intestines.

The designs from the First Nation tribes were wonderful

It was Gails turn for a silly photo!

We had a great night with a pleasant ambience and good wine. Don't ask about the food!

What a delightful jacket. What a shame you didn't have room in your bag for one...

I must say that if I had a choice of getting wet, or staying dry by wearing walrus intestines, I'd opt for wet...

Kate, It is just as well that you were not born an Inuit or Athabascan
