Overnight the wind had gusted over 140 km per hour with
storms and rain predicted for Glacier Bay.
We woke to sunshine and calm seas as we entered the bay.
When early Europeans first visited this area, the glaciers
came right to the sea and local Tlingit people lived on the lowlands. Today the glaciers have retreated and we
sailed for over four hours to reach the face of Margarie Glacier and the sixty
glaciers have shrunk to just twenty. We
travelled over 100 km to reach the tide water glacier at the border of USA and
Canada.
Our ship stopped right in front of the Margarie Glacier with
magnificent views of the face of the glacier and we even saw some small
icebergs calve.
We also went up a narrow inlet to see other glaciers.
By the time we exited Glacier Bay it was time to dress for a
formal evening.

Gorgeous - looks a little chilly though :-) Really getting a taste of summer here this weekend. Looks like you are having a ball.
Ha yeah, what Emma said. Too cold for me! The colours in the water and the ice are just amazing.
Hi
Thanks for the message. I had expected you to bring the gin. Em, saw your favourite gin on the ship for $35 US but just no room and the bottle would have been empty by the time we were home
R&G
I love gin. I used to use a lime scented shower gel until it got annoying to crave gin and tonic every morning in the shower.
Looks just breathtaking but cold!
