We are staying at English Bay at the delightful old landmark hotel Sylvia.
On our first day we decided on a walk around Stanley Park.We are not sure if we managed to walk off our huge breakfast or the dreadful Qantas offerings but we did see some interesting places.
Our first stop was the sculpture park designed to make you laugh.
The view over the harbour was spectacular as lots of people were out on the water for the holiday weekend.
The totem poles in the park were huge and commemorated the various First Nation tribes who had resided in this area
Other interesting spots were the boat houses built over the water and the many places that we stopped to rest
We finished the day with a visit to Joanne and Brian Gaffney's house for dinner. Brian is Gail's cousin and it is many a year since the last meeting. We enjoyed some local sightseeing with them before they drove us up to their beautiful house on Grouse Mountain.
A perfect start to the trip

Looks like a lovely start to the trip, glad you arrived safely with only the dreadful airline food as a downside! Looking forward to lots more posts and photos throughout your travels.
