From Waterton to Glacier National Park

We have moved to the other side of The Peace Park. Nature does not recognise the difference but there are in fact two parts to The Peace Park. Today we moved from the Canadian Waterton to the US Glacier National Park.
In fact we did it twice!. We started the morning on a lake cruise on Upper Waterton Lake and as we marvelled at the scenery and especially the reflections on what was a very peaceful lake we crossed the border into the USA. At this time of the year much is closed and that included the US customs check point at Goat Haunt Landing so we could not get off the boat.
You can see the marker in the foreground and the border is required to be clearly identified. Perhaps they send a man out on a ride on mower to indicate the border on the Prairies!
It was a relaxing and totally enjoyable few hours.
One could not help but reflect on the Peace Park concept!
We had a few extra stops before we drove to the US end.. First we visited a great little waterfall in the township and then went out again to the Bison Paddocks and were rewarded with a great sighting.

We drove down to Glacier National Park and managed to find accommodation at a "rustic cabin".
After settling in we went for a drive across the " Going to the Sun" road. one of the iconic car trips that you can do. It was considered an engineering masterpiece when the road was constructed in about 1932 when it was finished. Magical scenery at every point, lots of wildlife and bends and hills to make it one of the most interesting drives you could imagine.
We were rewarded with a good sighting of Elk

Today we only travelled half the road and returned but tomorrow we will drive the full road. Gail is intent on going on a " Bear Hunt"

What an amazingly beautiful lake - that border is quite odd looking there, isn't it!
