Tryst in Trieste

The Roman Theatre 1st century AD

Piazza d'Unita d'Italia. Gail 21st century AD

We left Cividale this morning on the small 2 carriage local train down to Udine. We. enjoyed our few days and I am sure that Cividale will grow in popularity. It is nominated for UNESCO world heritage listing.
The next train took us along the Slovenian border, eventually arriving in Trieste mid morning. W checked our bags in at the bus station and headed off to explore everything in Trieste before our bus left at 2 pm.
Trieste is a large city with an interesting old town centre. There are great public buildings as you can see from the photos.

On to Ljubjana on the local bus. It went via all the back roads up over the mountains with fascinating little villages and rural scenes.

More aboout Ljubjana in the next blog.

Wow. Hard to imagine such old buildings (like the roman theatre - now THAT's old!) just sitting in the midst of everything else.

Yeah - the main road running behind the Roman ampitheatre is quite a contrast!
