We are at the end of two days in Merida. To be honest we have not done much but that will help in our recovery from bad colds! We have not missed out on anything but have found the town somewhat disappointing. We are staying at a hotel where the plumbing is up for a UNESCO listing. It is very central in the Centro Historico so have been able to check out the Cathedral and a few churches all dating from 1500's, the markets, and many of the old buildings. It is an old Spanish city in the Mayan Yucatan peninsula and there are interesting places like Uxmal that we visited on the way.
From the markets! Rob is holding a live brooch. They must glue the decoration onto the "beetle" and pin it on so it can walk around. No it is not coming home as your present!
More odd things in the market! Scorpion ointment and Marijuana cream.
An odd collection of "Saints" for sale in the market. The ones in the front are devil worship and the one in the front extreme right is the "Saint" who was given this status by the drug cartels but no he is not recognised by the Vatican,
We had a long Gau Gau ride. It is an old fashioned Streetcar. It went to lots of places and some were interesting. Mainly old Spanish or French mansions but also another dozen or so churches.
A nice streetscape.
A pair of old homes.
This one looks French.
The churches are somewhat run down.
A modern Maya monument.
We move on to more Maya sites in the morning,

Remember when we were kids and would collect cicada shells and attach them to clothes as broches - this is really next level insect jewellry!
