Niagara Falls

We visited the Niagara Falls from Toronto - about 2 hours by train.  At the station we joined the bus that took us to Flat Rock where the Horseshoe Falls spill their huge amounts of water.  It was a brilliant sunny day and we walked along with the happy crowds (it was a public holiday in Toronto) taking photos every few metres.  We could feel the spray from where we were standing.

Eventually we reached the American Falls which are smaller than the Horseshoe Falls where we joined a very long queue for the trip on the "Maid of the Mist" to the base of the Horseshoe Falls.  As we drew nearer to the boat we were issued with blue plastic ponchos to protect us from the might of the water!!!

The boat trip was great.  Rob's poncho blew inside out with the force of the wind and he got very very wet - just as well the day was warm!  At the base of the falls, the force of the water was phenomenal - we could barely hold onto our ponchos in the wind and spray.  The boat sat there for a considerable time in that raging force while we snapped photos while trying to keep cameras and selves dry.  Eventually we headed back downstream to the American Falls and the landing.

We travelled back to Burlington by coach along the shoreline of the lake where we joined a train for Toronto.

How lovely! So glad you got to go on the Maid of the Mist - it wasn't running when I was there.
