We caught the plane to Boston from the extremely busy Ronald
Reagan Airport in Washington – as we boarded, a plane to Bermuda was boarding
right next to us. It would have been
very easy to join the wrong queue and ended up in Bermuda!
It was raining when we arrived in Boston but the Metro from
the airport runs right to the Sheraton where we are staying so the trip was
quite simple.
We lunched in the huge shopping complex next to the hotel
before heading out to the Museum of Fine Arts which was quite
breathtaking. This museum has the
largest collection of Monet paintings outside France so we visited these
galleries first.
The Egyptian rooms had so many mummies which were far better
displayed than those we saw in the Cairo museum as well as artefacts and
statues.
A gallery of musical instruments was quite fascinating –
early trombones and trumpets, pianos and harpsichords which are played on
occasions as well as some instruments we did not recognize.
Finally we visited a room full of jewellery – tiaras,
pendants, brooches all glittering with diamonds and other precious gems
beautifully displayed for the visitors to drool over!
When we left the museum – as it was closing – the sun had
emerged. What a great day!
Van Gogh Houses at Auvers painted in May 1890 just before his death in July.
One of the many teapots on display.
Some of the incredible stained glass.
The Egyptian collection is one of the best in the world and you can take photos - unlike the Cairo Museum.
There were rooms full of beautiful furniture.
I thought this Picasso would look nice in our house.
