Our holiday in Siena is a prelude to a driving trip staying at two small villages with day trips to the hilltop towns. Siena is such a glorious place that we wish we had planned to stay longer. It is our third visit but we plan on more!
We are staying in the walled city not far from the Piazza Del Campo the famous square. In a weeks time they will hold the horse races around the square and had put up the wooden rails to keep the horses and crowds apart.
We have strolled around the square, eaten gelato, visited the Duomo complex eaten more gelato and eaten at numerous great little restaurants. The food has been amazing and not being in a rush feeling that you have to visit every building in the town frees you up to seek out a few special eateries. Will post a separate blog on a few favourites.

Not sure if the wish was granted but we did have a very pleasant stroll around Siena
The Duomo is a most impressive sight. We returned the next morning to inspect inside.
On our visit the next day we started at the Cathedral Museum. Main reason we were able to jump a queue starting at this venue!
We went out to the Panorama Del Faceitone with the stunning views over the Cathedral complex and the adjacent rooftops

definitely some stunning buildings in Siena
I'm not sure what the obsession is with displaying dead bodies or body parts. Bloody weird!
Cool roof. I used to love climbing all over the roof at Tamworth.
