Assissi
Our first stop in the Umbrian countryside was the beautiful hilltop town of Assissi. We travelled by Rome local bus, intercity train, then local train and bus but still had to trundle our bags up a steep hill to our hotel right near the duomo of St. Francis.
We received a warm welcome from our delightful hostess at the quaint little hotel.
We visited the cathedral with its display of religious relics including innards of saints and treasures.
Outside there was a terrace with stunning views over the countryside.
The little alleys with steep steps leading to houses and the fascinating shops which line the streets are a feature of the old part of Assissi.
Afterwards we visited the church of St. Clare and saw a display of clothes worn by St Francis and St Clare. St Clare must have been a very tall, wide lady judging by the size of the garments.
A great day.
Having trouble loading photos from a slow connection.

Those holy romans sure do have a thing about displaying their too too solid flesh once they've cast it off!
Glad you're having a good time.
