Our first port of call in Mexico was Puerto Vallarta. This
is where many Americans and Canadians escape the cold if they don’t have a
condo in Florida.
From the cruise port we took a local bus for the few
kilometres around to the town. It is a very tourist dominated place with lots
of bars and restaurants. We walked around the Malecon, or boardwalk, admiring
the many sculptures and looked in the shops with every conceivable sort of
tourist kitsch. We also tried one of the local bars for local beer and wine
that was probably from the USA. They also had fast wifi so that pleased us.

We also walked up to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe,
the first of many that we will visit as it seems that most cathedrals have
taken this name. Then it was around to the Old Town with its cobbled streets
and colonial buildings. The waterfront area was still full of restaurants and
bars.

Finally it was back to the street to catch a bus back to
“Maritime” as it was almost time for departure. We did have time for a
hamburger by the pool and a swim before we sailed.

This was an interesting place to visit but we are looking
forward to the archaeological sites that we will visit later.
